The problem
Every film and TV scene needs people in the background: diners in a restaurant, office workers, a stand-in for a lead actor. Casting directors have to find hundreds of everyday people with the right look, in the right city, often at short notice, and then confirm who can actually work on which day. Doing that by phone, email and spreadsheets is slow, and good people get missed.
What it is
MyCastingFile connects both sides. Talent makes a free profile with photos and details such as height, age range and the cities where they can work. Casting posts paid roles as Open Calls, with the date, pay rate and location. Talent replies with one tap, “Yes, I’m available”, and gets a booking request in Replies when casting picks them. An optional Pro membership adds more photos, a video, a shareable Pro page and an email when new roles are posted.
Our part
Our founder worked on the team as a full-stack developer, on the front end and the back end of the platform for both talent and casting.
The main app is built with Angular and Angular Material, and the newer sign-up and profile app with React. Firebase handles sign-in, data, photo storage and the server functions, Elasticsearch powers search, and Chargebee runs the Pro subscriptions.
The product is built for people who are not on a computer all day: it works on any phone or computer, there is nothing to download, and it uses big buttons and easy-to-read text.
The result
Since 2020, casting directors have booked MyCastingFile members for more than 116,000 days on movie and TV sets.
